Eye Exams: Safeguarding Your Eye Health

Eye exams are a crucial part of your healthcare plan. Not only do they make sure you’re able to see the world around you clearly, but they also screen for things like dry eye disease, digital eye strain, and so much more.

Let our spectacular team put their knowledge, experience, and passion to work for your vision.

When Should I Have My Eyes Checked?

The Canadian Association of Optometrists has laid out these guidelines:

  • Adults between 20 to 39 should undergo an eye examination every 2 to 3 years.
  • Adults between 40 to 64 should undergo an eye examination every 2 years.
  • Adults 65 years and older should undergo an eye examination annually.

Your vision is unique to you; our enthusiastic and friendly professionals are here to build a personal eye care plan that addresses your needs.

What to Expect From Your Eye Exam

To begin your comprehensive eye exam, we’ll start with a run-through of your medical history and check-in about any visual concerns you may have noted.

Please bring your current prescription glasses or contact lenses along with you. This way, we can ensure your vision correction is right for you.

We may ask questions about your lifestyle, activities, and work environment to suss out any risk factors and vision needs.

During Your Exam

During your exam, we’ll run a series of tests to test your eyes and vision:

An eye exam will determine your prescription. But even if you have 20/20 vision, we still need to screen for eye diseases and conditions:

  • Glaucoma: A group of deteriorative diseases that attack the optic nerve.
  • Cataracts: The clouding of the eye lens that leads to vision loss.
  • Age-Related Macular Degeneration: A degenerative disease that affects the macula. Affects the centre of the visual field and can progress with age.
  • Dry Eye: A condition that affects the quality of tears, causing irritation and discomfort.

Did you know systemic diseases can be caught in an eye exam? Our committed team of professionals is here to keep your eyes working their best.

After we’ve run through your tests, we’ll talk over our findings together. Please let us know if you have questions or concerns during any part of the exam. You’re a partner in your eye health, and we want you to feel comfortable and confident when you leave our practice.

Then, our team of eyewear specialists and opticians can help you pick out the perfect glasses for you.
